Who's afraid of the big bad wolves?

Who's Afraid of big Bad Wolves ?
Who's Afraid of big Bad Wolves ?
The right question – why are we afraid to discuss the causes of terrorism?

Terrorism, like inflation, poverty, backwardness and malnutrition is a consequence, a disease and surely like all things that ail humanity, we need to work aggressively to find its cure. However, is any cure for any disease possible without investigating, analyzing and understanding its causes?

The scientific or a rational answer would be NO. A political answer would be OFCOURSE. And that’s where the problem lies. The political class specifically and all of us in general have completely stopped addressing our problems scientifically and this started a long time back.

The seeds of it were sown when all our psychological, physical or medical problems were addressed by our mothers, brothers or wives instead of doctors, psychologist or teachers.

So, a complaint of headache to your mother would have her running to the kitchen to fetch you a cup of tea. A complaint of stress turns your wife into a bartender and complaint of harassment by a bully in school had your elder brother go and beat him up black and blue.

Of course all mothers, wives and brothers have your best interest in mind but they are not necessarily the best people to solve these problems primarily because they may not have a scientific response to the situation but a mere emotional one.

So, when we grow up and become grown ups we still continue to seek emotional solutions to all our problems. Most of them need a scientific approach. So then is it any surprise that what ailed us in the 80’s still ails us as much if not more. Definitely more. And no, it’s not surprising. It should not be.

The first step would be to realize that its not about making right noises but right choices. And if we made a wrong choice then its about owning up to those wrong choices, finding the best corrective measures and making amends.

But how will we know what are the right choices? How will we know that what some are claiming to be right choices are not simply right noises? How will we know which are the best corrective measures? How will we know which is the best way to make amends?

The answer to all of the above is by simply applying rational science instead of high voltage emotional fiction. The answer lies in the simple scientific fact that by closing your eyes, the day doesn’t become night.

Yes, the Sun is harsh and it’s a thankless job but someone’s got to go out there and dig the fields to investigate, analyze and understand that how we planted those seeds of hate. Why and what made us do it.

Contrary to popular belief, "the who" is unimportant, irrelevant and redundant because no matter who started this fire, we are all fuelling and burning in it together.

Again, once we find the answers, our response can not be emotional like a son who blames his father for all his misfortune. Our response has to be scientific like a medical student who never forgets to learn the lesson taught by dissecting a frog, even though dissecting a frog may be the most painful thing he has ever done. Because if he forgets to focus on the learning, the frog would have died in vain.

So why are we afraid of visiting the big bad wolves? They came from the same jungles that we did.
