Well, it seems that McCain has figured out how to get press coverage...attack Obama. Following a week where Barack Obama was front page, top story on all news papers and news programs McCain must have felt left out. So, what would any attention hungry politician running for President do? Yep, create a bogus attack ad to get people talking.
In the ad McCain tries to paint Obama as a mere celebrity, not a leader, who wants to increase taxes and continue to rely on foreign oil sources. There is some truth to the ad...Obama is a celebrity, a rock star if you will. He packs his 'venues' with a diverse population of Americans. Black, White, Asian, Latino, male/female, gay/straight, old/young, and the list goes on. Turn on a McCain 'rally' and look at McCains appeal to America...a majority of white senior citizens dominate the crowd. America is a diverse nation. Our nations leader should be someone who is able to captivate the masses, not just the masses of white Americans.
To say the other claims are misconstrued would be an understatement. Yes, Obama has stated publicly that he is against off-shore drilling, but not because he advocates dependence on foreign oil. Alternate energies, not oil, are the future of American energy. Expanding off-shore drilling would not do anything to help solve our energy crisis in the short term or long term.
Regardless of who is elected President this year they will be faced with a tough, always unpopular decision to raise taxes. There is simply no way around it. The Bush administration has dug a hole that we will not be able to get out of unless taxes are increased. So, raising taxes is likely, but McCain will probably have to raise them as well.
Its just really sad that it had to come to this. I suppose it was inevitable, but I think we had all hoped that the attacks would stay above the belt. Good work on finding a way to get on TV, McCain. I hope the next time I hear your name it is for something other than you whining about how unpopular you are.
