Dutch voters may lean to right!!!
June 10th 2010 05:00
As I am writing this the final numbers are not in but it appears that the Netherlands may be leaning a little more to the right than they have previously done.
Running on a variety of platforms, but focusing on decreasing spending and stricter immigration, the conservative parties appears to be drawing more support for Wednesday elections from voters.
Apparently the voters in the United States are not the only people who are worried about immigration problems and problems with out of control government spending.
I hope this is a movement that continues to spread across the world. Smaller government is a good thing. Big government has never done anything except cause problems. Governments should only do things that the private citizen can't or should not do.
In case you are curious, here is a map of the political breakup of the Netherlands after their 2006 elections.
PvdD (2) - Party for the Animals
D66 (3) - Democrats 66
GL (7) - Green Left
SP (25) - Socialist Party
PvdA (33) - Labour Party
CU (6) - Christian Union
CDA (41) - Christian Democratic Appeal
VVD (22) - People's Party for Freedom and Democracy
SGP (2) - Reformed Political Party
PVV (9) - Party for Freedom
I do not know for sure, but I believe that most of these are fairly liberal parties with the most liberal at the top and becoming more centralist as you go. The SGP and PVV are both socially liberal but contain aspects that are conservative (such as with fiscal issues).
